How To Successfully Shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross
If you have been reading my blog for awhile now then I'm sure you know how much I love shopping at Marshalls and Tjmaxx. I grew up in a small town with not many options to shop, so T.JMaxx was always my go-to choice. I'm always finding things that would normally be priced much higher somewhere else.
Whenever I share that I purchased something from either of these stores, I always hear how some of you have a difficult time shopping there. It could be my location, but even when I lived back home, I have always been able to find some good stylish items.
So I thought I would take some time to go over some shopping strategies that I always share with my personal styling clients, but these are also strategies that I go by as well.
Have a shopping strategy
Shop at a certain time of day.
When shopping at these stores I recommend, going during the weekday around noon, everyone is at work, new arrivals are out and not picked over. This will also give you the time to shop at a slow pace ,while not feeling rushed. Most of the time I don't try on my clothes, but when I shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or Ross I always try on my clothes. Mostly because, I do not like taking back returns, and also I simply LOVE to shop at these stores.
Know what you're looking for.
Wherever, I shop doesn't matter if it's Zara, Old Navy, etc I always have a vision of the items I want to purchase. I normally spend a few hours throughout the week reading fashion magazines, watching youtube hauls, pinning my favorite items on Pinterest, etc. Also taking some time to go through my wardrobe to see what items I need more of. Doing either of these things always fills me with inspiration.
To give you an Idea of my thought process, here is how I decided my outfits for this blog post, I work from home, so It's important that many of the items I buy are comfy enough that I can wear from home to a casual outing. Because I don't really go out, buying clothes for a party or any special type of event would be a waste of time. I rather go shopping when a special occasion is arriving vs letting items sit in my closet and collect dust.
Bodysuits are in and I have a hard time finding tops that fits me right at my hips, so bodysuits are convenient for me because I can wear them underneath my overalls, with a pair joggers or in this case with a pair of wide leg pants.
This whole look is easily under $80.00
Money Saving Tips
Shopping at off-price retail stores makes it easy to spend a major coin! Listen, I am a sucker for a nice handbag, a coffee mug ooh and don't get me on the fact that you can easily find Calvin Klien undies and bras for super cheap.
I recommend, stopping by the bank or atm and simply withdraw money so you won't overspend, because more than likely if you overspend you probably won't be returning any of the items you bought. (a cough, cough, cough) I'm guilty of this.
Just because it's cheap doesn't necessarily mean you need it, if you have a budget in mind stick to it and don't think you can get away with adding another $20 top into your cart you don't need it, sis :) Ok maybe you do!
Sometimes there are items that are a little bit more pricey, I recommend putting the item on hold for 24 hrs if you find yourself still thinking about the item, then go back and buy. If you're not thinking of it or found it somewhere for a cheaper price then don't worry about it :)
