My Morning Routine as a Work at Home Mom
Many of you know that I am a stay at home, work from home mom. Because of this, every day is a little bit of a struggle. Because, well, I'm constantly trying to find ways to make the most out of each hour. The first few months of motherhood, I didn't think that I would get the hang of being a mom and still wanting to achieve my goals and such.
But as time went on, I kind of found my groove by creating a routine. My routine isn't perfect, somedays I'm not able to complete each task, but that's ok, I've just learned to go with the flow.
Today I thought it would be great to share with you how a typical week day goes for me, and what essentials I use to make my work day super productive.
8 am is normally when I wake up, well my daughter India, decides that it's time to get our day started. I know for some moms waking up before everyone else is key to success. But.... I'm not there yet. Once I'm up I spend about two hours preparing my day, first I start with getting India dressed, making her a snack and letting her watch her daily does of cartoons. While she is watching cartoons I then get dressed. Even though I work from home I love to get dresses as if I am actually leaving out for work. I'm much more productive and it helps me produce quality work because I feel good and look good.
10 am Fredrick normally takes over and watches India. I like to start my day off by making me a super delicious espresso, or I will drink my detox tea. Lately, I have been drinking my coffee and tea from my new favorite mug from Shades of Color. One of the reasons why I chose this mug is because the girl reminds me of myself, whenever I'm wearing my twist out. If you have not heard of Shades of Color, then you must know that Shades of Color is a black-owned business dedicated to bringing you the highest quality African American gifts available.
I decided to collaborate with Shades of Color because I know their products. Growing up my mom had bible bag covers and some figurines that she still has today. What I love is that they also give other African American artists a platform to collaborate as well.
11am I post to social media as that's the time where my engagement is the highest and then I spend time journaling and reading my daily devotional. I am currently reading 100 days to brave, which is amazing.
12 pm - 5 pm Is the time dedicated to working with my personal styling clients. Because I work virtually, I am able to either work from home or I will head to Starbucks to get a little work done. I like to pack up my Shades of Color tote bag and journal and take it with me to Starbucks. The Shades of Color tote bag is very good quality and sturdy. The pictures do no justice you guys will see me with this bag a lot now. I like to use it as my carryon when traveling.
6 pm- 8 pm Ok moms a great chunk of my day is spent working so I often feel guilty about it. So I like to spend the remainder of my evening hanging out with my family. I will cook, clean squeeze in a 30-minute exercise and then go over letters, shapes, and colors with India. Then I will either give her a bath and watch some of her favorite shows or read her a story.
9pm-12am Once India is down for the night I like to catch up with Frederick and then dive into blog work. This could take awhile depending on sponsored content, editing pictures or just scheduling social media content. But every single night like clock work I have to read. Lately I have been reading Malcom X's autobiography and I am hooked sooo good.
Obviously, this is just a small snippet of my day. There are days where I take a ton of breaks in between working to spend more time with India. Which is one of the goals I had in mind when I became a mom. I wanted the flexibility to spend time with my daughter while doing what I love.
