I Read Every Fall 2026 Trend Report: What's Actually Worth Wearing (And What's Getting a Hard Pass)
Fashion month wrapped a few months back, and I've had time to actually sit with what's coming out of Fall/Winter 2026 not just the "everything is trending!" headlines, but what's realistically going to show up in your closet (and mine) by October.
This isn't a recap of every runway trend. It's my edited take: what's worth your money this season, real pieces I'd actually buy for each trend, and what I'm skipping even though it's everywhere on my feed.
Worth It: The Trends I'm Actually Buying Into
Tuxedo dressing, but make it wearable
Le Smoking is officially back — satin lapels, cummerbunds, bow ties, the whole tailored-menswear moment. You don't need a full tuxedo suit to get the effect; one satin-lapel blazer over a simple slip dress or tank does the job.
Petal & Pup
Trina Double Breasted Satin Blazer
$110
The bronze satin gives you the tuxedo-dressing trend without looking costume-y, and it works buttoned over trousers or open over a plain tee.
Betabrand
Double Breasted Blazer Stretch Ponte
$144
Jewel tones over basic neutrals
Burgundy, mulberry, plum, and a punchier mandarin orange are all over the runways this season. If you've been living in black and camel, this is your sign to add one real color piece.
Bagatelle
Peplum Leather Jacket
$298
A dusty plum tone that reads as a jewel tone without being loud — pairs with denim, trousers, or under the tuxedo blazer above.
EDIKTED
Kennedy Oversize Cable Stitch Sweater
$73.60
Grey as the new neutral
Grey is quietly taking brown's spot as fashion's "safe" neutral this season.
Lauren Ralph Lauren
Double Breasted Wool Blend Coat
$320
A heather grey crewneck that works as a base layer under the plaid coat below or on its own with jeans.
Princess Polly
Ryanna Oversize Crewneck Sweater
$65
Texture, texture, texture
Shearling, fur (faux, always), fringe, and pile fabrics are everywhere — and texture reads as expensive even at a lower price point.
Avec Les Filles
Faux Shearling Jacket
$198
MANGO
Adriana Faux ShearlingJacket
$199
Brown faux leather with a faux-shearling collar and lining — does the "expensive texture" job of a $500 shearling jacket for under $100.
Brooches and "useless" belts
Niche accessories had a real moment — brooches on blazers and coats, belts worn purely for the look rather than function.
Jessica Simpson
Mixed Metal Rodeo Charm Safety Pin Brooch
$45
A sculptural gold bow-shaped brooch — pin it to the lapel of the satin blazer above, a plain coat, or a sweater.
Awe Inspired
Eros Arrow Brooch
$165.00
Plaid and checkerboard
The most autumn-coded trend of the bunch, and not going anywhere. Think beyond flannel — plaid coats, checkerboard knits, tartan skirts.
Avec Les Filles Sculpted Plaid Coat
$198
Lauren Ralph Lauren
Double Breasted Wool Blend Crop Coat
$280.00
An olive-and-navy plaid coat with a structured silhouette — cozy without looking like pajamas.
Hard Pass (Or At Least, Proceed With Caution)
Skinny jeans and denim-on-denim, full stop. It's back on the runway, but if you've spent years finally finding jeans that fit and flatter your body, I don't think a runway nostalgia trend is reason enough to start over.
Polka dots. They had their run — stripes are taking over as the season's "It" pattern instead.
A head-to-toe tomato-red moment. I love a red coat or bag as an accent, but the full scarlet-head-to-toe runway look is a lot for daily life. Pick one red piece, not five.
How to Actually Shop This Without Overspending
Texture, color, and accessories are the cheapest ways to update your look for fall a new bag, one colored coat, a brooch pinned to a blazer you already own. Save the bigger spend for pieces you'll rewear past this season (a well-made grey sweater, a plum coat), and treat the trendier stuff (skinny jeans, full tuxedo suiting) as optional.
Fall 2026 Fashion Trends FAQ
What are the biggest Fall 2026 fashion trends? Tuxedo/"Le Smoking" tailoring, jewel tones (burgundy, mulberry, plum, mandarin orange), grey as a neutral, heavy texture (shearling, fur, fringe), brooches and "useless belts," and plaid/checkerboard prints.
Is skinny jeans coming back for Fall 2026? Yes, skinny jeans and denim-on-denim showed up on several Fall/Winter 2026 runways, but it's a nostalgia trend, not a requirement — only revisit it if you already love the fit.
What color is trending for Fall 2026? Jewel tones lead the season — burgundy, mulberry, and plum especially — alongside a punchier mandarin orange and grey overtaking brown as the go-to neutral.
Almost none of this season's trends require a full wardrobe overhaul. Update through texture, color, and accessories first, save bigger spending for pieces with real rewear value, and treat the rest as optional. Tell me in the comments which of these you're already wearing.
