For over a year now I have been waking up at 4 am. It sounds crazy, right? I’ve been told that but, it’s a personal choice so I don’t push off this agenda that everyone should do it. But, it’s what works for me. I have a lot on my plate and I’ve learned that the mornings are one of the best ways for me to get work done. My husband is still asleep, my daughter is sleep and the house is so quiet!
Staying up late has never been my jam, in college I learned that I was a morning person. All-nighters would have me as a zombie the next morning. While going to bed early and waking up early is something that comes naturally. I will share more about how I am able to get up so early soon. But I thought I would share some of my healthy morning habits with you.
Spend Time Journaling
I have so many journals and have been journaling since I was a pre-teen. It’s a habit that I will never stop doing. My journaling routine is what gives me clarity. Now that I think about it, I should probably write a journaling routine as well. But for starters, I always write out my morning affirmations, the things that I want in life. I also write my prayers in my journal as well.
Catch Up On A Book
I often do not have time to read.Have you tried reading a book with a busy toddler? Yes, it’s a bit of a challenge. So getting some reading done in the morning has been a reward in itself. Some of my favorite books to read in the morning are Hello Tomorrow by Dr. Cindy Trimm, Commanding Your Morning, The Science of Getting Rich, Think & grow Rich, 100 Days of Brave.
Do The Hard Stuff
There are a lot of things that I do not like doing during the day, because I have a busy toddler who requires a lot of my time. So I used the mornings to go over our monthly & weekly budgets, brainstorm upcoming blogpost, updating my blog analytics, editing blog pictures and of course cleaning.
Plan Your Day
Sometimes planning my week isn’t helpful, because I almost always forget to write down the important stuff. So writing out my daily to-dos and must-dos at the start of my day keeps them in the front of my mind. I am currently using the Lux daily planner which is what I purchased on Amazon. It’s extremely helpful and really functional for my day and lifestyle.
At the beginning of the year, I challenged myself to switch up my noon workout routine to a morning workout routine. The benefit is that I don’t think too much about it in the morning as much as I do in the afternoon. I tend to procrastinate more later in the day. Where as waking up early I’m much more motivated to just do it.
Drink a Huge Glass Of Water
My daughter and I are huge water drinkers. Of course we occasionally will occasionally indulge in juice. But we love water. As soon as I wake up a pour a tall glass of water, I always add chia seeds and lemon into my water. This may not be for everyone, but I’ve realized that the chia seeds really helps to suppress my appetite through out the day as I have the tendency to snack and eat all day.
No Scrolling on Social Media
I know everyone has their own morning preferences. But for me, I’ve noticed that scrolling on social media as soon as I wake up can be draining. Social media can seem very fast pace as you’re trying to catch up and keep up. I need the first half of my day to be the time where I am able to relax and allow my mind to process my day.
Make Your Bed
A huge pet peeve of mines is having a messy bed throughout the day. Once my family is up, I like to make the bed. This just makes me feel so much more productive and is one less thing that I have to do.
Create a Skincare Routine
Skincare is my favorite part of the day. I like to do a face mask 2-3x a week. Because I have been consistent about my skincare routine, I have been able to see the results that I have been wanting to. You can read more about my skincare routine here.
But First Coffee
This probably should have been number one on my list, but coffee is the first thing that I grab when I wake up. It’s probably one of the reasons why I am able to wake up so early.
Make a healthy Breakfast
Some days I am not the biggest breakfast eater, but for the most part I really enjoy to keep my breakfast simple. Oatmeal, 2x boiled eggs, toast & bacon
Spend time with family
Not only am I a morning person but so is my daughter. Mornings are our time to catch up, and watch some of her favorite shows.
Write Your Affirmations
Affirmations! last month I went on a 21 day affirmation challenge. It’s where you right out a specific affirmation 21 times for 21 days. I kid you not I saw results!! I highly encourage affirmations as part of your morning routine.
